This article by Manlio Teodoro draws on the example set by the company Gatta – in an interview with the owners Marco and Silvia Gatta – to highlight some fundamental aspects of their business model. These include:
- Customer service, which can be seen in the company’s willingness to provide complementary design and engineering of the semi-finished product;
- The ethos of embracing or even anticipating change, as a key factor in success, particularly in the context of decisions made in the wake of the 2008 international crisis. The article describes how Gatta has successfully turned to new markets and embraced new technologies by making a series of investments that have proved to be winning decisions over the medium to long term;
- Diversification as a guiding principle which can increase the chances of business survival, in situations where it is hard to predict scenarios or foresee evolutions in the competitive environment, making long-term planning impossible.
