Heavy or light, sheet metal is great! Article published in the journal “MECCANICA NEWS”

This article by Mario Palmisano is based on an interview with eng. Marco Gatta, the co-owner of Gatta srl. In these few pages, Marco takes an instant picture of life at the company with its workshop, two departments and three generations of industrial history. The article has three main points:

  1. The exceptionality of having separate machining departments for heavy and light carpentry, forming two companies in one with the capability to manage heavy and light work, small and large parts, and a whole range of different thicknesses ranging from the thinnest (0.5 mm) to the thickest (300 mm);
  2. The importance of a steady growth of the business through three generations of entrepreneurs, over the course of a century;
  3. Statistics and figures. Interesting data include the company’s annual sheet metal consumption of 4,000 tonnes, or the breakdown between the types of materials used: iron (75%), stainless steel (10%), aluminium and others (15%).
